We worked with Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas and Toho Gas to develop a reduction gear with built-in torque limiter, incorporating a mechanical protection device in place of shear pins, as a countermeasure against commercial power outages in gas turbine generation equipment. We presented a related paper entitled “The Development of Torque Limiters for Power Outage Countermeasures in Gas Turbine Generation Equipment” at the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Turbo Expo in Atlanta in June 2003.
As a result, this paper was selected for the Best Paper Award in Japan, and was also honored at the ASME Turbo Expo 2004, which took place in Vienna in June 2004.
