According to our sales collaboration with Twin Disc, Inc., U.S.A., such a ship propulsion system of high mobility, efficiency and reliability is now on sale.
For the system, additions in the water will be skeg (fin at the lower part of body) only, and resistance in the water will be decreased to 50%, in comparison with a conventional submerged propeller drive system.
Surface-piercing propellers ventilate to the surface rather than cavitate under the hull. Thus the noise will be reduced and no extreme corrosion on the hull and propeller will occur. In addition, trim adjustment of propeller during running can control the extent of submersion. Such control is equivalent to the pitch adjustment in case of controllable pitch propeller, which enable response to wide selection of operational conditions.
Features
- Compared with the conventional systems, fuel consumption will be improved by 15% to 30%, along with the velocity and acceleration increased.
- For operation of steering to change-over propulsive direction through control of propeller, excellent mobility and maneuverability is observed.
- The system can respond to change of conditions for carrying load and current through operating the propeller shaft angle and adjustment of conditions of submerged propeller.
- Running operation is possible even in the shallow water.
- Size of propeller has no limitation, as no space below the hull is limited. This is why wide selection of propeller is possible.
